MDE - 8″ COOLING HOT TAPS
Project Overview
This project involved two 8″ live hot taps on active cooling mains at the MDE facility. WellFab planned and executed the work using Tonisco valves to establish new branch connection points without taking the active cooling system out of service.
The work sequence included valve installation, equipment positioning and alignment, controlled live tapping, coupon recovery, system monitoring, and final restoration of each connection point.
Technical Execution
✓ Two 8″ live hot taps completed on active cooling mains
✓ 8″ Tonisco valves installed for the new branch connections
✓ Tapping equipment positioned and aligned before cutting
✓ Controlled live cutting completed while the system remained operational
✓ Coupons captured and recovered during the tapping process
✓ System conditions monitored to maintain pressure integrity
✓ Connection points restored and prepared for branch integration
Project Impact
Using live hot tapping allowed the new connections to be completed without a full shutdown of the active cooling mains. This reduced the operational work associated with draining and refilling the system, removing trapped air, re-establishing operating conditions, and recommissioning the cooling loop after a shutdown.
The project demonstrates WellFab’s ability to execute multiple hot tap connections on active cooling infrastructure while maintaining system operation and creating reliable tie-in points for future integration.
