6″ HOT TAP – NEW CONNECTION INSTALLATION
Project Overview
This project involved creating a new 6″ branch connection on an active 6″ pipeline using a Tonisco hot tapping valve. WellFab planned the work to maintain system operation while establishing a secure tie-in point for the new connection.
The execution sequence included valve installation, equipment positioning and alignment, controlled live cutting, coupon recovery, system monitoring, and final restoration of the connection point.
Technical Execution
✓ 6″ live hot tap completed on an active 6″ pipeline
✓ 6″ Tonisco valve installed for the new branch connection
✓ Tapping equipment positioned and aligned before cutting
✓ Controlled live cutting performed while the system remained in service
✓ System conditions monitored to maintain pressure integrity
✓ Coupon captured and recovered during the tapping operation
✓ New tie-in point prepared for system expansion
Project Impact
Completing the branch connection live allowed the existing system to remain operational while the new tie-in point was created. This reduced the disruption associated with shutdown and drain-down and simplified the work required to expand the piping network.
The project demonstrates WellFab’s ability to deliver controlled hot tap connections for system modifications where service continuity is an important project requirement.
