2 × 8″ HOT TAPS - Chiller Underground Water Line

Project Overview

This project involved two 8″ live hot taps on an active underground chiller water line. WellFab installed the required branch fittings and isolation valves and planned the work around the underground access conditions and the need to maintain the existing chiller water system in service.

Each connection was completed through controlled equipment setup, live cutting, coupon recovery, system monitoring, and final restoration.

Technical Execution

✓ Two 8″ live hot taps completed on the underground chiller water line

✓ Branch fittings and isolation valves installed for both connection points

✓ Tapping equipment positioned and aligned within the underground work area

✓ Controlled live cutting performed while the system remained operational

✓ Both coupons captured and recovered

✓ System conditions monitored to maintain pressure integrity

✓ Connection points restored and prepared for future integration

Project Impact

Completing both connections live avoided a full shutdown of the active chiller water line and provided two new tie-in points for the mechanical system. The underground setting made access and equipment coordination central to the execution plan.

The project demonstrates WellFab’s ability to perform large-diameter hot tapping on active underground mechanical infrastructure while maintaining system operation.
