14″ LIVE HOT TAP – GLYCOL STORAGE TANK

Project Overview

This project involved the installation of a new 14″ nozzle on an active glycol storage tank through a controlled live hot tapping process. WellFab engineered the approach around the tank shell condition, access limitations, cutting requirements, and product protection measures.

By completing the connection live, WellFab eliminated the need for tank drain-down, temporary storage, glycol disposal, and extended shutdown procedures.

Scope of Work

✓ Engineered approach for curved-shell geometry and variable wall thickness
✓ Planned safe execution around limited headspace and access constraints
✓ Installed new 14″ code-compliant nozzle
✓ Performed controlled live hot tap on active glycol storage tank
✓ Maintained product integrity throughout the operation
✓ Completed the work with zero drain-down and zero product loss
✓ Supported documentation for long-term serviceability and compliance

Project Impact

By keeping the tank in service, WellFab helped eliminate the need for temporary storage tanks, glycol transfer, product disposal, shutdown coordination, and restart-related risks.

The completed tie-in delivered a clean, permanent, and fully documented connection while improving long-term reliability, serviceability, and regulatory compliance. The project also protected product integrity by avoiding unnecessary exposure, contamination risk, and handling.
